For the Foxhunt on Saturday afternoon we need those who are interested to go to website and complete the entrants form, so that we can gauge if we have sufficient numbers to go ahead or perhaps whether we need to get more volunteers to run the event if there s a big turn-out. There is minimal amount of rule information on the webpage at the moment, more will, of course, be added closer to the event. REMEMBER don t rock-up and expect to take part if you haven t registered your intent through the entrance form. Please register! The Saturday night get-together will be at the historic Grand Hotel in Wyong the invitation goes out to all hams, SWLs and family who are in the vicinity. Full details to follow nearer the day. Are you clearing out your shack? Don t forget the Car Boot Sales at the field day with all under cover-spots for up to 60 cars. Pay at the Howarth St. gate as you come in from 6:00am. Get there as early as you can to get the best spot to get rid of your "trash" so you have some money to buy your "new treasures" to take home with you. For all information and costs look at FIELDDAY.ORG.AU under the Car Boot Sale tab. That s where you want to go for all information about the biggest Aussie amateur event of 2020 & . In fact, of any year! The Wyong Field Day at Wyong racecourse on February 23rd and don t forget the fun and games on the 22nd! For the Central Coast amateur radio Club this was Ed VK2JI. ---------------------------------------------------------------------* Hello, I m Geoff Emery, VK4ZPP, and I ve been thinking. It will soon be election time for WIA members and we will soon be able to read the statements that the candidates for election have provided. So elections tend to be a bit ho-hum or most people with the cynicism that carries over from the political sphere inflicting itself on other matters. What I believe is that no WIA member can feel too bored to place a vote for your preferred candidates when you get your ballot paper. What I believe is that we should support the election of the best people to be our voice in the hurley burley that we call amateur radio. The areas that the Board members have to deal with range from local QSL bureaus to international relations within the IARU and World Radio Conferences. As John, VK4JJW, current Director, expressed it on WIA News, we need people who can think for the hobby and who can think independently and who are not in there on a private mission. We want candidates who represent us and not themselves. This is what we should have in mind when it comes to the election and hopefully it will be in the minds of those who put their names forward. When we check the calendar and see the time for nominations to close is on us, we know the ballot papers will soon be appearing with Amateur Radio magazine and the Convention and AGM in Hobart will soon be with us. At the end of the Convention, the newly structured Board gets to meet and elect the office bearers for the next 12 months. When we have to vote for people to run a body made up of volunteer, most of us don t think of the time that they will put in fulfilling their position. I have seen ignorant comments from within the hobby that Board members get well paid and have junkets at the expense of the members. That is so wrong on both counts. Our Board members are known to dip into their own pockets for many of the tasks which cost them money. Our Board members do not get paid and they are like your radio club executive and the person flipping the onions on the fundraising barbecue, they are some of us, unpaid volunteers who seek to grow this great hobby of Amateur Radio. So all my fellow WIA members, remember it is our good fortune to vote and do our bit for the hobby too. I m Geoff Emery VK4ZPP and that s what I think....how about you? ---------------------------------------------------------------------* TO SUPPLY QNEWS ITEMS:- Send SCRIPT to qnews@wia.org.au send audio to http://www.wia.org.au/members/broadcast/upload/ QNEWS Tips to get MORE out of your weekly newscast on VK4WIA If you would like to submit club news items for inclusion in QNEWS broadcasts, please email your item in text to:- qnews@wia.org.au THEN submit audio:- To submit audio email qnews@wia.org.au and ask for the current password then read "how to submit items" in the weekly news page on http://www.wia.org.au/members/broadcast/contribute/ Remember the sooner you submit audio material the more the likelihood of it being broadcast in the very next edition QNEWS.
